Golden Pizza Shovel Heads to
Lake Havasu City
Almost $1,500 raised for Athletics
BULLHEAD
CITY – Nearly $1,500 was raised during the First Annual Domino’s Pizza ‘Golden
Pizza Shovel’ competition, which ended Friday at Thunderbird Stadium in Bullhead
City.
In the end, the crew from the Domino’s Pizza store in
Lake Havasu City raised more money for their high school than their counterparts
in Bullhead City raised for Mohave High School.
A total of $829 was raised for the athletic department
at Lake Havasu High School. That compares to the $668 raised for the athletic
programs at Mohave High School.
“This was the first time for us and I think we’ll be
making it an annual tradition,” said Domino’s Pizza district manager Sam
Medrano. “Next year, we’ll be doing it in Lake Havasu City.”
The “Golden Pizza Shovel’ competition was held to
coincide with the annual football rivalry between the Knights and T-Birds. The
highlight of the competition took place at halftime of the big game where 200
pizzas were sold to hungry fans waiting in the rain.
“The two stores got almost $1,000 during the halftime
event alone,” Medrano said. “Lake Havasu won because they pulled in more
donations at the store during the week before the game.”
“This was an absolute blast,” Medrano added. “Pizza is
big with football fans and we’re glad to have satisfied that craving Friday, but
it was a great competition between the two stores and we raised a lot of
much-need cash for the two schools.” |
